What do you need to hire a yacht in Croatia?

To hire a yacht bareboat you are required to have a licence

The Croatian port authorities will accept the following licences:
• The ICC (International Certificate of Competence)
• The RYA Day Skipper obtained through the Royal Yachting Association
• The NauticEd SLC (Sailing Licence and Certification)

If you do not have a sailing licence you can still charter a yacht with skipper. For total relax, we offer also crewed yacht charters.

If you already have the licence, we strongly recommend you refresh your sailing knowledge before getting on board. You can help yourself also with our sailing tips for beginners, how to tie basic sailing knots, and more advices for sailing a catamaran .

We Speak English

Whenever you call us or email us, don’t worry, we are fluent in English. Just start speaking English when we answer. The documentation on board our boats is in English and our dock manager who makes the check in of the boat with you speaks fluently English. If you ever need assistance during your charter week, you have our contacts on the boat and we are at your service 24 hours a day via free phones provided on each charter boat.

Currency

Croatia is a member of European Union and part of European Monetary Union, therefore Euro is the official currency and you will able to pay only in Euros in Croatia.

You can get cash at any ATM machine using your normal ATM card and the machine accepts 4 and 5 digit pin. Most restaurants accept foreign credit cards, but it is always good to have some cash on hand for the markets etc. When you land at the airport, there is an ATM machine and it is always a good idea to start with some cash in your pocket.

The exchange rate you can check at this link.

It is important to announce to your credit card company that you will be travelling to our country. Just dial the number on the back of your card a few days before you come. This is a good thing to do, as you will be obliged to leave a security deposit upon your check-in. We will preauthorize the amount and release it if there’s no damage on the boat upon your return. Deposits vary from 1000 € to 5000 €. Or, if you wish to minimize your liability, you can also make deposit insurance.

At the base you will have to pay for the extras in cash (Transit log, tourist tax, and other extras you have ordered - gennaker, Stand-up paddle, kayak, foldable bike, eScooter etc.), if it was not paid in advance, along with the charter fee. You can pay this also with your credit card.

Navigation Area

The sailing navigation area is not challenging. As Croatian archipelago consists of over 1000 islands you are always in sight of land and navigation to your destination is simple without complicated reefs, especially in the local Sibenik archipelago.

GPS charts are up to date and accurate. We provide GPS chart plotters on board all our boats as well as charts and pilot books in English describing the locations of marinas, bays and anchorages.

We have a big chart of the area in our office and we are always happy to recommend a route to you on spot, according to your preferences. You can read more online about sailing areas in Croatia in this article by our partner agency Skippercity.

In the area there are many marinas, anchorages and bays with buoys.

During the high season – July and August – for most popular sailing destination like town of Hvar or town of Vis, you have to either make reservation for the berth in marina (the reservation increases the mooring price for cca. 50%) or come pretty early (latest 2-3 PM) to the marina or in the bay in order to get a spot. Making a reservation is very simple and you do it through the app on your smartphone or on your computer.

In our web page menu please find our recommended sailing routes for your trip. Please feel free to ask for any additional information you might need.

We would like to point out that Croatia is very safe and tourists friendly country .

Our yacht charter are fully insured. The insurance deductible or security deposit is the maximum out-of-pocket expense you will incur should an accident occur. The amount depends on the yacht size. You also have the choice to lessen the insurance deductible. The premium or buy-down cost is approximately [200-300 USD/per week] depending on the yacht. This brings the maximum deductible (out of pocket expense) down to [115] in case of damage.

When you arrive, we will authorize your credit card for the deductible amount. We don’t charge it, we just authorize it. When you bring the boat back without damage, we automatically remove the authorization. Should there be a damage, your card will be charged only up to a maximum of the deductible amount and no more. If the damage is less than the deductible, then your card is only charged for the actual repair cost.

Note that it is important to ensure that your credit card company knows of your intent to travel to our country so that we can authorize your card for the deductible. Otherwise, this causes delay at the base since your boat will not be able to leave the dock until the card is properly authorized.

Provisioning

There are several options for provisioning. However, we recommend lightly provisioning because you will quickly discover there are many excellent restaurants in the area as well as grocery stores allowing you to obtain any necessary food or goods along the way.

If you want to pre-order and have everything wait for you when you get on the boat just let us know and we will provide you with further information.

You can do all the necessary purchases in a well-equipped grocery store in the marina, or in two large shopping centers situated within a mile from our premises. Our staff in the office will show you on the map how to get there.

Security

As you will, we are sure, experience by yourselves, the safety is not an issue in Croatia.

Even though Croatia is well-known tourist country and the crime rate increases slightly during the summer season, these are pretty much contained to pickpocketing, petty thefts, and bag snatching, making Croatia one of the safest countries in Europe. Theft risk always exists so be careful when on the beach and public places. Don’t leave your valuables in plain sight, especially in the car you left parked somewhere else then secured parking places and garages.

While on your boat, don’t bother locking the door or similar. Relax and enjoy in bays and marinas without any fear of theft or assault. Anyway, when leaving the boat, close and lock the door in case some of the fellow merry men from other boats misses his boat in the “happy state of mind”. :)

Hi!

Last week we rented the Sportski Vuk (Grand Soleil 37R). I would like to share that we really enjoyed sailing the boat.
The boat was in a good condition and the service of the crew was great. Kike responded very promptly on our questions while sailing.

See you again!
