What does it mean to charter a bareboat yacht in Croatia

Bareboat yacht charter is a yacht rental option where you hire a sailboat, catamaran, or motor yacht and you operate it totally by yourself taking full responsibility for the security and safety of the vessel, and all crew members on board.

It gives you complete freedom to sail anywhere in Croatia at your own pace in total privacy and tailor your bareboat sailing trip to your own wants and needs.

If nobody in your crew has a valid skipper license and enough sailing experience to manage the boat efficiently, you will not be able to charter a bareboat yacht anywhere in Croatia. But don’t worry. We offer also skippered and crewed yacht charter options or help you obtain your valid skipper license and experience through our RYA sailing school and certification center.

In any case, we will fully equip and fuel load your boat prior to your arrival, and can help you define your ideal itinerary, recommend where to sail and eat, which attractions and places to visit, and more based on your specific wishes.

In our marina in Sibenik, just next to our charter reception office, there is also a grocery shop to buy necessities, although you can have your groceries also preordered, prepaid, and delivered straight to your boat by ordering them through our long years’ partner: JAM YACHT SUPPLY.

Bareboating Croatia is a unique mix of adventure and relaxation that offers some advantages in comparison to crewed or skippered yacht charter holidays.

Although your skipper with a valid license will be the main person responsible for the boat and crew, everyone on board should be delegated their own obligations and participate in sailing and navigation activities on the boat. The teamwork practice makes the bareboat sailing experience also a great teambuilding exercise.

Requirements for bareboat charter in Croatia

Before officially booking your reservation for a bareboat charter, it’s important to review rules, regulations, requirements, and your sailing skills to ensure a fun and safe time on board.

The mandatory requirements for entering Croatia and chartering a bareboat yacht:

  • Valid skipper license for Croatia. This is a must-have no matter what boat you’re driving because it validates your ability to drive a boat safely.
  • A valid passport or ID card from your country of origin or residence.
  • Refueling of the boat at end of use. You’ll be required to refuel the boat after your holiday with unleaded fuel only.
  • Tourist tax: this amount is payable directly upon arrival at the NCP marina.
  • Transit log / full comfort pack, which differs from boat to boat, and it covers all possible costs for: Wi-Fi, GPS plotter in cockpit, cockpit cushions, outboard engine with fuel, final cleaning, laundry, towels, paper towels, toilet paper, cooking gas, soap, liquid and sponge for dish washing, welcome snack pack (tea, coffee, water, premium local wine, honey, sugar, local sweets) and snorkeling mask.
  • Optional: deposit insurance at the lowest possible prices in Croatia.

Additional recommended requirements:

  • Travel insurance (please check with your travel insurance company) which include medical / health insurance.We recommend getting insurance before starting your trip, as it will provide extra protection in case anything happens.
